Album Review: Gordon James and the Power - Self Titled EP (2017)

It's Album of the Week time again and this time around we have the debut EP from Gordon James and the Power, a 3 piece who, over the last few years, have been relentlessly gigging the North East of Scotland and beyond (trekking as far as Norway earlier this year).

For those unfamiliar with the GJ&TP, they perform energetic acoustic sets comprising mostly of covers of popular music but with their own uniquely entertaining spin (including songs by artists as diverse as Motorhead, The Pussycat Dolls and The Fresh Prince). Peppered amongst the covers at their live shows are a number of their own original compositions which range from the slow and sombre to more up-tempo and uplifting numbers.

The debut EP consists solely of the band's own songs and there are 5 tracks here for your aural pleasure. The songs are full of soaring, hearfelt vocals, tight harmonies, clever hooks and intricate fills with truly excellent production throughout.

If you're already a fan of Gordon James and the Power be sure to support the band and pick this record up as it succeeds in capturing the energy and emotion of their live performances. If you've never heard of them do yourself a favour, give this EP a listen then go see them in their natural habitat, live on stage, at one of their many upcoming shows.
