5 of My Favourite Podcasts

5 of My Favourite Podcasts

So I thought I'd do a short list with 5 of the podcasts I listen to regularly. Everything on this list is free but you can get additional content for choosing to support them via paid subscriptions. In all cases the free content is of the highest quality. Check them out and please recommend your favourites in the comments! Without further ado and in no particular order:

1. The Complete Guide to Everything

the complete guide to everything podcast the head scratcher

A weekly guide to everything, covering a different topic each week. Hosts Tim and Tom have great chemistry and their discussions, despite going off topic regularly, are interesting and can be downright hilarious. Special segments include 'Tim and Tom Solve your Problems' where the dynamic duo "solve" a listeners problem, "'A Particular Kind of Asshole you Didn't Know About Until the New York Times Pointed it out to you" and the "Mundane Bucket List", fairly self explanatory.

Visit tcgte.com for all their deets.

2. Mysterious Universe

mysterious universe podcast the head scratcher

A podcast from the land of Oz (that's Australia, you know, the one without the wizard and wicked witch), Mysterious Universe is all about the unexplained. Topics cover aliens, poltergeists, conspiracies, out of body experiences and much more. Hosts Ben and Aaron have just the right balance of open mindedness and skepticism and clearly take pride in providing a well researched, funny and entertaining show. Even if you "don't believe in that sort of thing" it's still a great listen.

3. The Completely Unnecessary Podcast

the completely unnecessary podcast the head scratcher

The CU Podcast is a pop culture podcast with a lean towards videogames and retro gaming in particular. It was started by retro gaming youtuber Pat Contri (Pat the NES Punk) and his friend Ian Ferguson who manages a retro games store. Both hosts are extremely knowledgeable about videogames (and many other pop culture topics) and have great chemistry meaning their discussions are engaging, informative and often very funny.

4. WTF with Marc Maron.

WTF with Marc Maron podcast the head scratcher

Host Marc Maron is a time-served stand-up comedian turned podcasting machine. Each week Marc interviews a celebrity guest who range from the well known to the obscure. Interviews take the form of informal discussions which pull you in and make you feel like you're in the room. Marc has had a fascinating life in his own right and he often delves into his own past and present vices, flaws and worries. This is an absolute must; essential listening. Boomer lives!

5. The Nerdist Podcast

the nerdist podcast with chris hardwick the head scratcher

Another podcast started by a stand-up comedian where guest celebrities join the host for an informal chat. Originally started by Chris Hardwick with friends Jonah Ray and Matt Mira the Nerdist Podcast has spawned its own network of pop culture content and has become an absolute juggernaut. Chris is insightful, engaging and is an expert at making his guests feel at ease which facilitates a candidness not often present in more traditional interviews. These days Jonah and Matt only join Chris infrequently. They are all very funny comedians so these 'hostful' podcasts can be a highlight.

Take a look and let me know if you enjoy these podcasts as much as I do.

Peace.
